Telemachus
Odysseus's son, a baby when his father sailed for Troy and about twenty when the poem opens: old enough to hate watching the suitors eat his inheritance, not nearly strong enough to throw them out. The first four books follow him from Ithaca to Pylos and Sparta in search of news, and the journey is what turns him into someone worth standing beside. He fights next to his father in the hall.
