Troy
The city in north-western Asia Minor that the Greeks besieged for ten years and took at last by the trick of the wooden horse. The Odyssey begins after all of that is over. The war survives in the poem as a memory the characters keep circling back to — sung by bards, retold over dinner, wept about — and as the reason every man in the story has been away from home so long.
